Have you been following along as Spooner’s Home Improvement Services transforms this house located on Swiftwater Rd. in Woodsville, New Hampshire into a home? Wondering what has been going on the past couple weeks? In this update we’ll show you how the exterior landscape is changing and provide you with a brief update of what to expect next.

In our first post we provided you with the details of the Swiftwater Rd. Home before any renovations began, and as you can see from the photo’s below the changes thus far are amazing!

Here you can see the front entry had a narrow door with old metal framed windows, small narrow metal framed windows to the left, a large picture window and another older metal framed window to the right.

Below; front of home on March 30th.

The windows to the right of the door and the wall below has been removed.

The picture window has been removed and new energy efficient windows have been installed.

Below; front of home on April 10th.

New front door has been installed, windows to left have been removed and new window installed.

Landscaping has been started including the flower box built under the the living room windows.

The front entry is transforming in more ways than one!

As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words” and this picture says it all!

The property offers a large semi-private back yard with plenty of room to enjoy family BBQ’s, flower gardens, a vegetable garden and room to play!

The spring weather has really motivated the team to get outside and as you can see here the back of the house is really starting to look inviting!

New windows and door have been installed, debris has been cleaned up, lawn has been mowed, and new deck is in the process of being constructed.

The deck is almost complete and will be ready for summer relaxing and BBQ’s

Another beautiful stone walkway has been added and soil has been prepared for some spring plantings

If you’ve been following along with our blog you know the Swiftwater Rd. Home Renovation Project began at the end of January and has already seen some amazing changes, especially to the kitchen. Well, today I’m going to show you some of the other projects in the works starting with the living room.

The living room had 3 windows, (2-standard size windows and a picture window) thin carpet, wallpaper with border on lower walls, paint on upper walls and an old square tiled ceiling with several tiles falling down, stained and worn.

The window on the far wall has been removed to offer more wall space and the walls prepped for painting.

Here you can see the new windows have been installed including 2-windows where the picture window was, the room has been painted, carpet removed and floor prepared for hardwood to be installed, and the new ‘Coffered’ ceiling is in almost complete.

The coffered ceiling is a first for me and to my knowledge the first one Dave of Spooner’s Home Improvement Services has ever constructed, because I hadn’t heard the term ‘coffered’ before I did a little research and have discovered coffered derives from ‘coffer’ or ‘coffering’ in architecture, which is a sunken panel made in the shape of a square, rectangle, or octagon often used in ceilings, soffits or vaults as decoration with the strength of the structure being in the framework.
 

What do you think of the living room so far? I love the changes and have to admit my favorite is the ceiling as it adds character to the home and brightens up the room.

It has been a few weeks since I’ve been able to update you due to technical difficulties. However that hasn’t stopped progress as the crew at Spooner’s Home Improvement Services have been very busy working on several areas of the Swiftwater Home Renovation Project, including removing a window and adding wall space, installing a coffered ceiling and replacing windows in the living room, adding two windows to the den where there weren’t any windows to begin with, removing the old shed and beginning work on a patio/deck off the kitchen, as well as tearing out the bathroom and working on the bedrooms.

In this update we’ll show you how far the kitchen has come since the project began on January 27th.

The kitchen before renovations began had a mix of different style and size cabinets scattered on both ends.

The window you see here above the sink was blocked by an old shed and had a framed painting stuffed behind for something to look at while doing dishes!!

This is the other side of the kitchen, you can see here there were different cabinets and cupboards taking up much needed space and not really offering ease of use.

Here you can see the area where the sink was has been stripped and strapping placed on the walls to prepare for sheetrock. Also, the shed on the exterior has been removed and the window area is ready for replacement.

This is the Dining area of the kitchen, all the cabinets have been removed and sheetrock is in place.

On the left you can see the window has been replaced and the new cabinets are being installed.
On the right you see the walls have been painted, wainscoting added, new door and windows installed.

About 3 weeks ago we showed you part of the Swiftwater Rd. Home purchased by Spooner’s Home Improvement Services. I this update we will show you the exterior of the home and the bedrooms as they look prior to any renovations.

The Swiftwater Rd. House is a 3-bedroom, 1-bath ranch built in 1960.  This house is very unique in that it was constructed using concrete rather than wood which presents challenges to the crew of Spooner’s Home Improvement Services. They’ve had to be creative when considering demolition and redesigning some of the rooms to afford a more modern appeal with modern comforts while keeping the home in an affordable price range when it is ready to be marketed.

Below is a side view of the home showing the attached 2-car garage, side yard and part of the driveway.

To the right is a view of the back of the house as it is now! Just imagine how this will change once spring arrives and the weather allows for exterior work to begin!

One of my favorite features this property offers is the semi-private back yard with the natural tree-lined buffer!

In our first post we showed you the kitchen, living room, bathroom, enclosed porch and the bonus room, below we will give you a brief tour of the bedrooms as they look now!

Bedroom #1 is approximately 10’X10’ and offers a large walk-in closet.

The carpet will be removed, walls repaired and painted a more neutral color and the window replaced.

Bedroom #2 is approximately  11’X 10’ and currently does not offer a closet.

The plan here is to break out the wall where the window is and add a closet which will be taken from the enclosed porch on the front of the house.

The carpet will be removed and walls painted a neutral color.

Here you see the hallway which leads to the master bedroom and laundry room.

As you look down the hall you can see a doorway, this doorway will be the access to what will be a master bedroom suite.

The master bedroom is currently o the left beyond this doorway.

The Master Bedroom is approximately  17’X22’ and offers 2-closets.

Currently floor covering is vinyl squares and the walls are papered.

The plan is to replace the flooring and change the wall décor as well as replace the windows.

Many of you probably remember watching and following along as we blogged the Riverside Home Renovation Project last spring, which was located in Lisbon, NH and completely renovated by the Spooner’s Home Improvement Services from Haverhill NH.

Well guess what? Spooner’s Home Improvement services are at it again!! This time they have purchased a Ranch situated on Swiftwater Rd. just outside the Village of Woodsville.  We closed on this one Friday evening at 5pm on January 27th and by Saturday morning work had begun!

House currently features 3-bedrooms, 1-bath  with attached 2-car garage, laundry room, eat-in kitchen, large living room with stone hearth, and an extra room great for an office or den, as well as an enclosed porch.  All situated on a nice 1/2 acre lot conveniently located within minutes of Cottage Hospital, Doctors offices, Wal-Mart Super Center and many other amenities offered in the Village of Woodsville.

In the photo to the right is the entry from the enclosed porch. There was a temporary 4.5 foot wall separating it from the living room that has already been removed.

The living room
currently has carpeted floor
with wallpaper and painted walls.

The photo to the right shows the beautiful Stone Hearth that will remain, however the wall to the left of it will be knocked out to give the house a more open feel.

The kitchen currently has a mix-match of cabinets placed on opposite ends of the room, vinyl flooring, and old ceiling tiles.

The window you see over the sink does not offer any view or light because it is attached to an old shed! Can you imagine standing there doing dishes looking at the exterior or your shed??

In this photo you can see how there are different cabinets just sort of plopped anywhere there is wall space to put them.

I’m thinking this was a very dysfunctional kitchen

The one and only bathroom has all the necessities but lacks comfort and appeal with dingy vinyl flooring, oversized vanity, and an avocado green bathtub!! After seeing the transformation from the Riverside Home Renovation Project I know we can expect to see surprising changes to the layout and functionality of the space available here!

This is what I call the ‘bonus room’ giving that much needed extra space for a home office, den or even a formal dining room if you’d like!

This room has wall of shelves/cabinets pictured above, a slightly vaulted wood ceiling with track lighting (picture at right) and a tile floor.

The question is will these remain? What do you think?

What you will need to get started:

Children (we love making this with our granddaughters)

4-8oz. packages of Pillsbury Biscuits

• 3-Tsp. Cinnamon

1c. & 3 Tbsp. of Lite Brown Sugar (packed firmly)

1 Stick & 3 Tbsps. of Margarine

1/2c. Sugar

Preheat oven to 350

Mix Cinnamon & Sugar, separate into a couple of bowls

Cut biscuits into 1/4’s place on paper plates

Place greased Bundt Pan along with cut biscuits and Cinnamon/Sugar mixture on the table

Let the kids have a blast rolling biscuit 1/4’s in cinnamon/sugar mixture and toss into Bundt Pan (Hodge podge style) 

 As you can see making Monkey Bread is fun for everyone!

Once all the biscuit 1/4’s have been rolled in cinnamon/sugar mixture, melt margarine and brown sugar over low heat. (DO NOT BOIL) Pour over Biscuit’s and bake for 30 minutes

Remove from oven and invert immediately onto a plate

Let cool or dig in!

No need to cut just pull apart and enjoy.

Monkey Bread is delicious any time of day whether as a snack, desert or even for breakfast!
